My copy of this book is stained and the binding is starting to split. I’ve had it for a few years and use it at least once a week. In addition to great vegan recipes (I particularly like the “stedda beef” and “stedda tuna” creations), Marilyn Diamond does a great job of discussing nutrition, cooking methods, and natural foods. Well worth the money. I have friends who went and bought this book just because I made a gravy from it when they were visiting!

Every recipe I have tried has turned out wonderfully. I love the Almond Milkshakes, New Age Fries, Easy Baked Beans, and “Goodwiches”…can’t wait to try some of the tofu “Stedda” recipes. I’m confident that everything this book offers is simply delicious and brings about the best of feelings. One would do well to invest in a copy.

This is a great vegetarian and diary-free cookbook.I really like the ease of the recipes and the easy-to-find ingredients. It also is a good reference for pantry staples, basic cooking techniques and vegetarian nutrition principles.I’ve even got my die-hard “meat and potatoes” husband to try some of the dishes (PS:HE LOVED THEM!!).This is the only cookbook that makes me LOOK FORWARD to cooking!

This book is full of excellent, tasty, healthful recipes based on many, many decades of well-documented and enormously successful research and true practical results – not to mention Marilyn’s extensive cullinary experience and skills. Even if you are only looking for great vegetarian recipes, this is the book for you!

Don’t let the cynical, unfounded personal bias and incorrect statements of one person (the reader from Oceanside) spoil your desire for the great food ideas presented in this great cookbook!

If you have the desire to find out more about food combination and natural hygiene and you are just starting out, Harvey and Marilyn Diamond’s Fit for Life and Fit for Life II (much more revealing) are also great choices to go along with Marilyn’s cookbook. I would urge, as they do, that you read the extremely common-sense, well documented, and well proven facts presented in all of these books and decide for yourself the value of their advice and counsel concerning your health.

I am a firm believer in the principles of Natural Hygiene.Unfortunately, I am a diabetic, and I have read very little in theirpublications regarding Natural Hygiene’s application for diabetes. I’d be interested in hearing from anyone who has info. I have tried almost every recipe in the book, and I have a husband and a toddler to please. They’ve never turned anything away that I have made for them out of it. It works every time! I strongly suggest this for mom’s who are worried about the junk their kids eat!

I started out by reading Marilu Henner’s first two books which were excellent. The “Total Health Makeover”, but she referred to Marilyn Diamond in her book and the “Fit For Life” idea. Choosing to do further research I decided to read “Fit For Life” and have never gone back to the old ways of eating.

This cookbook gives you more than just reicipes. This book gives us who want to be healthy (and who aren’t the greates gourmets) easy and simple menus that are easy to understand, but better yet she explains why she does the things she does, and the principles behind the things she does. It makes it a lot easier for people to stick to a plan when they understand what is going on in their body, and what they can do to prevent some of the everyday aches and pains that are caused by improper food consumption. By no means am I a cook, or a fanatic! But this cookbook makes my life easier and makes it easier to comply with the way I should be feeding my body. Thank you to Marilyn Diamond and harvey Diamond as well as Marilu Henner. I have never said this before, and probably never will again – THIS COOKBOOK COULD CHANGE YOUR LIFE and MAKE IT 100% BETTER! I promise.

The only cook book I have ever read cover to cover. Not only does it have fantastic recipies but the hints and information before each chapter are so interesting and helpful. The recipies in this book are becoming family favorites. I really LOVE the almondaise. And the deserts are to die for! If your looking for a way to eat healthy and still love the food this book is for you. But I must say I havent lost any weight yet, the food is sooooo good I cant stop eating. But I feel Great! My husband and I dont have heart burn any more, we sleep so much better and have more energy to make it through the day. His favorites are the juices, fruit and vegtable. Thank You so much Marilyn!

This is a wonderful book for anyone wanting to add whole foods to their diet. This book is equipped with all the info you need to get started from tips on how to stock your kitchen, how to use ingredients that might be unfamiliar to you, how to replace animal ingredients, to delicious recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and desserts. For those of you who love to READ cookboks like they are novels, this is one you can’t put down. Excellent info and descriptions of each recipe and advice on how to serve it or what to serve it with. Omnivore hubby has loved just about everything i have made from this cookbook. A must for all kitchens trying to make a difference with healthier eating.

I am not a “health nut” but am interested in maintaining and improving my health. These recipes have stood the test of time as I purchased this book when it first came out.

I have made so many of these recipes and have found most of them to be wonderful. If you like occasional meat, which I do, I add grilled fish, or sauteed chicken. It is not the end of the world and doesn’t blow the diet. Just combine the food properly and you are still eating healthy.

Very enjoyable food and well worth a try.

I have been a vegetarian for over ten years. When I first started the transition I bought a copy of this book. Since I have made tons of the recipes from the American Vegetarian and they are awesome. Diamond gives great information on why she uses certain ingrediants over others. This book taught me about real nutrition and about real alternatives to a meat and animal product rich diet. The cookbook is actually vegan. But for those of you who are a bit skeptical once you try recipes like the basic creme soup without any real creme you will be hooked. Honestly this is my favorite cookbook, all of Marilyn Diamond’s Cookbooks are good but just not the same. This is a must have for every vegetarian kitchen! The one down side is some of the scientific information seems outdated.
