Types Of Vegetarians

Vegetarianism is a lifestyle choice.

For some, it’s for health reasons. Others do it for ethical and/or religious reasons.  Nowadays, we see many doing it to help the environment. But often it is a progressive realization of figuring out the best fuel for the body or a combination of the above.

Today, there are several different types of vegetarians, all based on specifics of consumption.

LACTO-OVO

The most common type of vegetarian diet, Lacto-Ovo followers omit all types of meat from their diet but still consume dairy products and eggs.

OVO VEGGIE

The person eats no meat or dairy but does eat eggs.

VEGAN

The person excludes all foods and products of animal origin including honey, wool and leather from their diet and lifestyle.

RAW VEGAN

Same as above but the person consumes raw or ‘living’ food only.

SEMI VEGGIE*

A “part time vegetarian,” the person eliminates red meat but does occasionally consume fish and chicken.

PESCO VEGGIE*

The person eliminates most animal flesh but consumes fish, seafood, eggs and dairy products.

POLLO VEGGIE *

The person only eats poultry meat together with fruits and vegetables. Most pollotarians consume   fish meat as well.

PUDDING VEGGIE

The person lives on a “meatless” junk food diet loaded with refined foods, such as   white bread, white pasta, cakes or biscuits.  Meat or no meat, this “diet” is a recipe for disaster that can cause   significant damage to the body and induce many diseases.

FRUITARIANISM

These persons take veganism a step further by only consuming anything that can be gathered or   harvested from plants without harming it.

YOGIC, ‘SATVIK’, OR BUDDHIST DIET

A plant based diet which may also include dairy (not eggs) and honey, but excludes anything from the onion or leek family, red lentils, durian fruit, mushrooms, blue cheeses, fermented foods   or sauces, alcoholic drinks and often also excludes coffee, black or green tea, chocolate, nutmeg or any other type of stimulant such as an excess of   spices.

JAIN VEGETARIANISM

This includes dairy but excludes, onions, garlic, spices, eggs, honey as well as root vegetables.

PESCATARIAN*

Includes fish and possibly other forms of seafood.

POLLOTARIAN*

Includes chicken and possibly other poultry.

POLLO-PESCETARIAN*

Includes poultry and fish, or “white meat” only.

MACROBIOTIC DIETS*

Consisting mostly of whole grains and beans, but may sometimes include fish.

FLEXI-TARIAN

One who is in transition to becoming a complete vegetarian.

WEEKDAY VEG

Inspired by Graham Hill where you eat Vegetables five days a week. This approach; among many other reasons; is to decrease the green house gases.
